A 56 year old man, appeared at the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on 17 October 2019, on a charge of sexual assault. The man, who is a teacher at a local school is alleged to have sexually assaulted eight grade seven learners, 7 boys and a girl from the said school.
It is reported that the teacher had allegedly been violating the learners from March 2019 until he was exposed in September. He would allegedly call them over to his desk during class, show them pornographic videos as well as images and lure them individually to a storeroom to commit his evil deeds.
The suspect was arrested on 16 October 2019, after a lengthy investigation into the matter. He was granted R 2000 bail and is expected to appear at the same court on 20 January 2020.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has condemned the callous act of the teacher who targeted and preyed on innocent and defenceless school children, more so as he was entrusted to mentor, support and care for them.
