The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has condemned an incident in which an 18-year-old learner was allegedly assaulted and later died.

Three suspects appeared before Kabokweni Magistrates’ court on 30 May 2022, facing a charge of murder.

Gladys Mashabane (51), Skholiwe Mbuyane (27) and Sandiso Mbuyane (26) were reminded in custody until 3 June 2022 for a formal bail application which would be held at Masoyi Periodical Court.

It is alleged that the deceased, Andile Sambo (18) who was a grade 10 learner at Bhekiswako Secondary School was assaulted by his aunt and three family members at their residential house at Numbi trust. They alleged that he broke a window and stole a T-shirt.

The deceased was allegedly then assaulted with a wooden lock and a sjambok on his head and body.

He was subsequently taken to Phola Nsikazi clinic for medical treatment where he was certified dead, hence the arrest of the trio. One suspect is still on the run and the police expecting to arrest him soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has condemned the incident and advice parents to be exemplary to the society than taking the law into their own hands.
