While Tonga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations Unit (FCS) members were busy with their investigation in Schoemansdal, two suspects aged 18 and 20 years, unknowingly committed a crime in the vicinity.

According to information, on 19 April 2023 at about 13:00, two suspects entered a shop not far from Matsamo Mall.

One of the suspects pretended to grab something from the refrigerator and the second suspect closed the door from inside, pulled out a firearm and pointed it to the owner whilst instructing him to lie down.

They demanded money and managed to access an undisclosed amount of cash, a number of airtime vouchers and ten packets of cigarettes.

It is alleged that the suspects used the back door to exit. Immediately after the suspects left the shop, the owner managed to dash out and screamed for help from the community.

Fortunately Tonga FCS members were within the crime scene, they immediately arrested both suspects.

They were charged for robbery, possession of unlicense firearm and ammunition. They will appear in Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 21 April 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela was overwhelmed by the dedication displayed by the FCS members.
