A 39-year-old Administration Clerk attached to Grootvlei SAPS is expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday, 20 February 2025 for his alleged involvement in the theft of petrol from a vehicle that was handed in as an exhibit at Grootvlei police station in November 2022.

The suspect was summoned to court and he will later join the other three co-accused, a 43 year old police sergeant (John Nene), a 35 year old police constable (Julie Manzana) and a 51 year old plumber from Dipaleseng Local Municipality (William Mahlaba).

Both Nene and Mahlaba were released on bail after their arrest, whilst Manzana was summoned to court.

The trio made several court appearances, and the trial date was scheduled for 29 and 30 July 2025.

Through intense investigation by the Hawks Secunda based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, an additional suspect, administration clerk attached to Grootvlei SAPS, was also summoned to appear before Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 February 2025.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, said the Directorate will bring all those involved in the theft to justice and ensure that they are held accountable for their actions.
