Police have launched a manhunt for a group of about seven men who were involved in a shootout with security guards and proceeded to damage a safe of a store in Marapyane, Mmamethlake .

It all emerged that on 6 August 2018, at around 03:00, when on duty guards noticed a vehicle next to the entrance of a shopping complex and called for backup. When the first patrol vehicle arrived, it was met with shots, so was the second vehicle. The security guards managed to drive to the Satellite Police Station for assistance.

Police then rushed to the scene but the suspects had already fled through the back door of the shop. A probe was instituted and the police discovered that the suspects had forcefully opened the door of the shop and blasted the safe but no money was taken.

During the shooting no one was injured, only the two patrol vehicles which were damaged.
