Four suspects, two of which are former police officers were arrested on 9 November 2021, by members of the SAPS’ Nelspruit Flying Squad Unit, at Msogwaba Trust, Pienaar.

The suspects, aged between 39 and 43 are due to appear at the Kanyamazane Magistrate’s Court on various charges including possession of stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearm as well as possession of unlawful ammunition.

According to the report, the officers received information from tracking company Netstar after they received a signal.

The officers then followed up on the information which led them to Pienaar near an old building resembling a warehouse. The suspects then ran out in different directions upon noticing the police and fired shots at them, the officers retaliated and shot and injured one of the suspects, while the others (suspects) ran back into the building.

The officers then proceeded to search building and discovered stolen furniture items including, beds and electronic appliances.

They also found the suspects hiding inside and swiftly arrested them. The injured suspect was rushed to hospital for medical treatment and is currently under police guard.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga has commended the alertness of the officers and also welcomed the arrest of the suspects.
