Police found 676 pairs of counterfeit sneakers (takkies) abandoned on the Lydenburg-Rossenekal road, at Lydenburg yesterday, 24 March 2017.

The discovery follows an operation held by police during a stop and search near the Sasol garage. They received a tip-off about suspicious activity where the driver of a truck was seen busy offloading a number of boxes next to the Roossenekal Road in the bushes and police immediately rushed to the scene where they found 10 boxes wrapped in black plastic. Upon opening the boxes and examining the contents, police found counterfeit sneakers as well as 1 040 packets illicit cigarettes.

All the items were taken to the police station and SARS officials were informed. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma commended the co-operation received from the community and encouraged them to continue with the good work. Police investigations continue.
