Police are investigating two counts of murder after two bodies were burnt in Masoyi

Police are investigating the gruesome murders where two victims were burnt to death at Nhlalakahle Trust in Masoyi.

The two male bodies aged 36 and 39 years were spotted by some community members this morning, Saturday 30 December 2023 at about 08:30.

Police were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, one of the deceased was found laying outside the vehicle whilst the second body was found inside a burnt vehicle. The victims were unfortunately certified dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police have since instituted an investigation on who might have been involved in the gruesome murders.

Currently, information from preliminary investigations suggests that the victims were murdered following allegations of stock theft incident in the area.

The police urge anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information via MySAPSapp. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned incidents where community members resort to taking the law into their own hands. The General further reiterated the call to report all criminal activities to the police for proper investigation and fair prosecution. “Vigilantism will never be a solution to crime and we urge communities to work hand-in-hand with us on issues of crime. One cannot correct a wrong act with another act of crime,” said the General.
