A 61 year old man was remanded in custody by the Witbank Magistrate’s Court today, where he was appearing facing a murder charge.

Andre Fouche was arrested on Sunday, 23 June 2019, at Seekoeiwater plot in Witbank after he allegedly shot a man in his right upper body. The victim was transported to Witbank Hospital where he later succumbed to his injury.

According to information at police disposal, four teenage children went fishing at the said plot after they reportedly received permission from the owner to enter and fish on the premises.

Later that day, the parents of the teenagers were called by unknown people who are staying and renting on the plot.
The parents were informed that their children started a fire on the plot and also that they were fishing illegally, a R400.00 fine was payable for their kids to be released as they had been “detained”.

The parents arrived at the plot where an argument soon ensued, between them and the tenants. Fouche who is the grandfather of two boys claimed that the tenant (deceased) threw a stone at him and he retaliated by firing a shot at him with his hunting rifle. He was subsequently arrested on, 23 June 2019, hence his appearance.

The suspect was remanded in custody pending bail application and will reappear at the same court on 1 July 2019.
