The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, is elated by diligent work done by police in White River, Lydenburg and Delmas after operations conducted led to the arrest of ten suspects in separate incidents.
The latest incident involved two men who were arrested on 21 February 2019, after police received information of a vehicle that was stolen around Nelspruit. Police conducted a joint operation between the White River K9, Nelspruit Detectives as well as a private security company, resulting in the pair being nabbed and a stolen vehicle recovered. Inside the car, police found 34 vehicle keys, 3 jamming remote controls as well as a signal jammer with 18 antennae.
The second incident happened in Delmas, after police received information of a house that had to do with the manufacture and dealing in drugs. A sting operation was then launched with the assistance of members from Delmas, Vosman, Witbank, Kriel and the Middelburg K9 Unit resulting in 89 bundles of Khat drug with an estimated street value of R48 000, being seized and seven suspected drug dealers apprehended.
In the last incident, a 32 year old man was arrested on Wednesday, 20 February 2019, allegedly for kidnapping, robbery and rape. Information at police disposal suggested that the man, targeted women who were hitch-hiking and took them to the bushes where he robbed and raped them. He also targeted unsuspecting people withdrawing money from ATMs and robbed them. The vehicle of the suspect was spotted by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit where after he sped off and a chase ensued along the Sabie Road, at which point backup was requested from Sabie Police Station as well as the Nelspruit Flying Squad who managed to intercept him.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of robbery, kidnapping and rape. A preliminary investigation also unearthed that the suspect is currently on parole for possession of an unlicensed firearm sentence and the parole was due to end in September this year.
The Provincial Commissioner is thrilled with the sterling work by the members as well as private security officers who are always available to fight crime, he urged them to continue removing bad elements from society.
