Police in Mpumalanga has reiterated the call to the community members to refrain from taking law into their own hands.

The call comes shortly after two people aged 19 and 25 were badly assaulted after they were suspected of having committed a business robbery in Dobha, Kwaggafontein C yesterday Thursday 12 October 2023.

According to information, the two allegedly entered one of the tuckshops in the area and asked the whereabouts of the owner. Information received is that the owner was not at the tuckshop at the time.

The two allegedly returned about 20 minutes later and robbed the tuckshop assistant of a mobile phone, airtime machine and other items at about 10:30 in the morning.

It is allegedly that they further locked the tuckshop assistant inside before they fled the scene.

A case of business robbery was registered.

When police were still tracing the business robbery suspects, they were informed about an alleged mob justice incident in progress.

Police rushed to the scene where they met resistance whilst trying to rescue two victims, however police managed to get the situation under control at about 16:55 and rescued the two unconscious victims.

One of the victims succumbed to the injuries in Kwaggafontein clinic and the second victim was later declared dead in Kwamhlanga hospital.

The murder case was also registered and police have launched an investigation.

The South African Police Service in Mpumalanga reminded community members that mob justice was never a solution and calls upon community members to report wanted suspects to the authorities. Police urged community members to refrain from taking law into their own hands.
