A 53 year old government employee was murdered on Saturday 30 November 2019, in the Sabie area. Information at police disposal indicates that at about 22:50, the man who has now been identified as Murethi Ngale, was with his friends at a sport bar and within a moment, he stepped outside after receiving a call. Subsequently, there was a sound of a gunshot outside and Ngale came back running but collapsed on the floor.

Reports indicate that another man who was in possession of a firearm followed shortly and went straight to the victim whereby he searched him.

It is alleged that this unidentified man took the car keys from the victim and fled the scene using the victim’s Silver Amarok bakkie which had since been recovered between Sabie and Graskop.

The police and the emergency personnel were summoned to the scene where unfortunately Ngale was certified dead. Preliminary investigation also suggests that the deceased is a government employee attached to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government.

Police have since opened a case of murder in this regard and are adamant that the suspect(s) must be brought to book.

Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, the Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, has strongly condemned this heartless incident and has requested the community members that have vital information regarding the suspect(s) to immediately contact the police.
