Police in Mpumalanga are looking for a gang of armed men who blasted an armored G4S security vehicle earlier today, 13 April 2018, at about 10:20 and made off with cash.
It is alleged that the armoured vehicle was heading towards Kamhlushwa from the direction of Schoemansdal when the security personnel noticed a silver BMW sedan and a gold Volkswagen Amarok bakkie following them at high speed. The occupants in the BMW drove parallel to the vehicle and forced the driver to halt at gunpoint.
In the process, the security guards also noticed that there were other vehicles, including a black BMW, which were blocking the road with a group of men armed with rifles.
As a result, the G4S vehicle came to a standstill thereafter the guards were forced out and disarmed. The suspects then blasted the vehicle before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A similar incident occurred at Zwelisha on Tuesday morning, 9 April 2018, at approximately 06:00, where one of two Fidelity Security vehicles was also robbed of cash, police are still looking for the suspects.
Information at police disposal, revealed that the two security vehicles were en-route to pension paypoints at Zwelisha and Luphisa, when they noticed a white Toyota bakkie with men tailing them. They reportedly tried to evade the suspected bakkie but one of the security vehicles was cornered at Zwelisha, where the suspects in the bakkie were joined by their accomplices who were driving in a white BMW.
They blasted the security van and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
In both incidents no one has been arrested as yet and police investigations are proceeding.
