Man who shot brother dead and injured three others to appear in court

A 45-year-old man will be appear before the Balfour Magistrate’s court on Monday for allegedly shooting dead his brother and injuring three others at the weekend.

Mpumalanga police said the arrested man faces a charge of murder and three other counts of attempted murder.

On Saturday at around 20:00 police were informed of several people had been injured at a house in Letsoko street in Siyathemba, near Balfour

Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said on arrival police found a man who said he was a tenant at the house in question.

“The man told them that he was standing outside with the landlord’s wife when a red Toyota Conquest stopped near the gate and the younger brother of the landlord started swearing at them,” said the brigadier.

“He then took out a firearm and shot at his brother’s wife, he proceeded towards his brother and shot him as well as two other tenants.”

Hlathi said the brother of the suspect died on the scene and the other three victims were taken to hospital. They remain in a critical condition.

“The suspect left the scene driving his car and later handed himself over at Balfour Police Station yesterday at about 08:00.”

The police are still searching for the firearm used in the shootings.
