Man to appear in court for possession of rhino horn

A 21-year-old man is expected to appear before the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Monday 19 December 2016, for possession of a rhino horn.

His appearance follows an incident that took place yesterday, 16 December 2016, when police received a tip-off about a certain man residing within the Tonga area who was in possession of rhino horn. The members swiftly proceeded to the house and searched it but to no avail.

It then transpired that an unidentified man was seen running out of the house into the sugar cane field, carrying a plastic bag. The police members chased the suspect on foot and successfully apprehended the suspect, carrying the said plastic bag. Police searched the suspect and upon closely inspecting the contents of the bag, a rhino horn was found.

He was arrested and charged for possession of rhino horn and he will appear in court on Monday, 19 December 2016.
