The Circuit of the Pretoria High Court sitting at KwaMhlanga sentenced Sibusiso Donald Ntuli aged 25 to life imprisonment for murder and two counts of attempted murder.
The sentencing of Ntuli which took place on Wednesday, 12 September 2018 followed after the court had found him guilty earlier on. The court heard how Ntuli brutally assaulted and ran over his girlfriend, 25 year old Thembi Mkhwanazi with a bakkie following an argument they had had while at a local shop in Weltevrede, near Kwamhlanga, on 1 January 2018.
On that dreadful day, after having assaulted his girlfriend, Ntuli left and went to his parental home to take his parent’s Nissan Pick-up vehicle. Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, she could not walk or stand on her own, she had two of her friends assisting her by trying to get her home.
A few metres away from the victim’s place of residence, they saw the offender driving towards them at high speed. The friends were then forced to abandon the victim on the ground, ran for their lives and Ntuli drove over the victim killing her instantly.
He was handed to the police station by his father on the same day and has been attending court ever since. Ntuli was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 30 years for the two counts of attempted murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma applauded the investigating team as well as other role players for ensuring that yet another perpetrator is removed from society for a long time. “The sentence comes at a crucial time after the country’s crime statistics have just been delivered. It is clear that strides are being made by law enforcers in ensuring that all people are and do feel safe, especially women and children. We hope that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders”, said General Zuma.
