A 36-year-old man was arrested by the SAPS members in Balfour with suspected stolen copper cables. The man was cornered in Balfour on Monday 13 March 2023. During the arrest, police seized copper cables worth thousands of rands.

According to the information, it is said that on Monday, 13 March 2023 around midday, Balfour SAPS members operationalized information about two male persons in possession of suspected stolen copper cables.

The information was immediately followed by the astute members. It was not long before two suspicious persons were spotted along the street at Emabhunwini area in Balfour.

As police members approached the suspects, they reportedly dropped their bags and fled on foot. One of the suspects was apprehended whilst his accomplice managed to evade arrest.

Upon conducting a search, police discovered that the bags contained copper cables with an estimated value of about R50 000.

The suspect was then arrested on charges of being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables. The police are still in pursuit of the suspect who managed to evade arrest and are hopeful that he too will be brought to book.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court today facing the said charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the members for their vigiliance.
