Police at Bethal arrested two suspects aged between 28 and 34, on a case of murder after a man in his 30’s, was shot and killed at Bethal on Wednesday 25 December 2019, at approximately 23:00. The police also seized two firearms with ammunition during the arrest.

Reports suggests that Bongani Manana, who is a businessman, was at Bethal dam when he left to open his business. According to information at police disposal, an argument ensued between Manana and some patrons which resulted in a shooting whereby Manana was shot.

Police as well as Medical Personnel were notified about the incident and they rushed to the scene. Manana was taken to hospital with bullet wounds in his body but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.

Police immediately conducted their preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of two suspects, recovered two firearms and ammunition.

A case of murder is being investigated by the police and the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. Both suspects will appear at Bethal Magistrates court on Friday 27 December 2019 on the charge of murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has since warned lawful owners of firearms to be more responsible and refrain from using them to settle scores.
