A man (48) from the kingdom of Eswatini is due to appear in the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court today, 19 September 2023 on allegations of dealing in dagga after he was reportedly found in possession of 48,2 kilograms of dagga with estimated street value of about R 202 440-00.

The suspect was arrested during the time he was crossing the border at Oshoek Port of Entry. Members of the Police stopped and searched a white Nissan UD truck that he was driving. The truck with registration number plates from the Kingdom of Eswatini. It was during the period when members were searching when they discovered about 08 rolls of dagga wrapped with a brown sellotape and hidden underneath a base of the trailer.

The man was arrested and charged accordingly hence his appearance today. The dagga was confiscated together with the truck seized for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspect and reiterated that Police continue in their determination to battle cross-border crimes, which include the trafficking of dagga or drugs.
