Two suspects aged between 24 and 26, are due to appear at the Mayflower Periodical Court on 13 March 2019, on charges of murder and business robbery.

According to reports at police disposal, three suspects on 6 March 2019, had gone to a shop, wherein they robbed the 42 year old owner of an undisclosed amount of cash, before firing shots at the man and fleeing the scene, leaving him lying in a pool of blood.

An investigation was then launched which led SAPS members to a certain place where one suspect was arrested on 11 March 2019. Police continued with their investigation after receiving information which led them to the other two suspects.

When police arrived, the suspects began running and firing shots at the police which resulted in one of the members being grazed by a bullet. Police retaliated by firing back and one of the suspects was hit and later certified dead at the scene.

The other suspect was arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma condemned the act of criminals attacking the police and on the same breath, urged members to be alert at all time as well as always expect the worst while attending to complaints.
