Three suspects, including two males aged 26 and 44 and a 23-year-old female, were arrested in Sakhile, Standerton, on Friday, 08 August 2025, following the recovery of drugs with an estimated street value of R2 million and R7,000 in cash.
The arrests were made after the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit and Standerton K9 acted on intelligence about drug dealing at a premises in Sakhile, a township in Standerton. Upon operationalizing the information, authorities discovered drugs concealed in two vehicles: a KwaZulu-Natal registered BMW and a Gauteng registered VW Polo.
Further investigations led to the seizure of two safes from the house, which, when opened, revealed large quantities of narcotics, including Kat, Mandrax, and Crystal Meth.
The Hawks in Mpumalanga are currently probing possible links between the recovered drugs and a previous discovery of a clandestine laboratory and warehouse earlier this year. The combined value of the seized drugs, vehicles, and equipment is estimated at R2.5 million.
The three suspects are set to appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 August 2025.
