The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the joint efforts by Police from Sabie, Pilgrims Rest, Dientjie and Lydenburg K9 Unit after arresting 19 suspects on 8 June 2022, in Sabie.

The suspects were arrested on a range of charges including, illegal mining, possession of illegal mercury, contravention of the Immigration Act as well as possession of illegal mining equipment.

According to the report, the members gathered information which led them to Nkanini Informal Settlement in Sabie where upon arrival they found suspects allegedly conducting activities relating to illegal mining.

The suspects were swiftly arrested while others managed to flee.

All the suspects are appearing before the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on 9 June 2022.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has commended the collaborative efforts by the members which yielded positive results.
