Hefty sentence after kidnapping and murder, Vosman

The Circuit of the Pretoria High Court sitting in Delmas has meted a harsh sentence to 32 year old Nompumelelo Stephina Ngwenya on series of crimes.

The sentencing follows thorough investigation by the police on two incidents which occurred at Vosman near Witbank in December 2016, where 60 year old Nozipho Shabangu and her daughter, Samukelo Shabangu aged 24, where brutally murdered.

Nozipho’s body was found on 7 December 2016 at the family home and Samkelo’s at the local cemetery the same day.

On 27 December 2016, Police then launched an investigation which led them to Phalaborwa, where they found Ngwenya together with her husband, Lucky in possession of a vehicle belonging to the victims and they were arrested. The husband, Lucky is still standing trial as he did not plead guilty and is expected to appear in court next year around February.

Nompumelelo was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for both murder charges, as well as 10 years for kidnapping Samukelo and an additional 10 years for possession of stolen motor vehicle. All the sentences will run concurrently and she will serve an effective 18 years in prison.
