Zakhele Mnisi (39) has been remanded in custody by the Kabokweni Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 May 2023, after he was arrested by members of Fidelity Security guards during a cash-in-transit robbery.

It is alleged that on Friday, 5 May 2023, at about 16:10, an armoured vehicle (AV), was driving from Mkhulu to Hazyview.

The suspects bombed the AV and an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

A helicopter of Fidelity which was escorting one of their AV’s arrived on the scene and spotted the vehicles which were used by the suspects and pursued them. They noticed a GD 6 Toyota Hilux with one suspect jumping out of the vehicle in an attempt to flee however, the suspect was chased and arrested.

During the high speed chase, three vehicles, a Toyota Hilux, a Haval and VW Tiquan were found abandoned. A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that all three vehicles were robbed from their owners who were stationary, close to the scene of the robbery.

The case was postponed to Monday, 15 May 2023 for a formal bail application.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Nico Gerber, appeals to the community to share information with police on the whereabouts the remaining suspects. He further warn the public to refrain from tampering with crime scenes as they directly implicate themselves to the crime.
