In a significant bust at the Oshoek Port of Entry, the Hawks’ Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit seized a large quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of R900,000 on Wednesday.

The operation was initiated after members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) stationed at the border post intercepted a South African-registered truck arriving from the Kingdom of Eswatini. The Hawks were subsequently summoned to the scene.
Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities discovered mandrax tablets and dagga concealed within suspicious-looking boxes and plastic bags.
Two suspects, the 33-year-old driver and his 40-year-old crew member, were immediately placed under arrest. Both are permanent South African citizens originally from Lesotho. In addition to the drugs, a sum of R3,200 in South African Rands and E4,600 in Eswatini Emalangeni was found in their possession.
The seized narcotics have been sent for forensic analysis. The two men are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Elukwatini District Court today, Thursday, 13 November 2025.
