A 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Libode Magistrate Court in the Eastern Cape on Friday, 15 July 2022 for possession of suspected stolen firearms and ammunition.
His appearance followed after he was arrested by the Mpumalanga Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation together with Eastern Cape DPCI, Tactical Response Team, Public Order Policing and Crime Intelligence Mthatha on Thursday, 14 July 2022 during a multidisciplinary intelligence driven operation in Eastern Cape.
Information was received and followed about a suspect who is in possession of suspected illegal firearms.
The team proceeded to the alleged suspect’s hideout in Eastern Cape.
On arrival at the premises, a search and seizure operation was conducted wherein two firearms, a rifle and a pistol with rounds were found then seized. The serial numbers were filed off and the firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of other crimes.
The Provincial Head of the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation Major General Zodwa Mokoena applauded and appreciated the cooperation of the team.
