Hawks arrest ten men with illegal fish worth R4 million

Ten men were arrested on Friday for illegal fishing valued at an estimated R4 million.

Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said the suspects, aged between 29 and 40, were arrested at Vosman in Witbank in Mpumalanga.

Sekgotodi said that five of the men were South African, while the other five were from Mozambique.

“During the arrest the suspects were found to be transporting bags of raw fish with two vans. The value of the fish is estimated at R4 million,” said Sekgotodi.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Bosman Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
