In a significant breakthrough, 41-year-old fugitive Sibusiso Sibiya finally appeared before the Volksrust District Court on Monday, 06 October 2025, marking the end of a more than two-year search for the alleged murderer of his fiancée, Amanda Khumalo.
Sibiya, who had been wanted since February 2023, has been remanded in custody. His formal bail application is scheduled for 27 October 2025.
His arrest on Friday, 03 October 2025, by members of the Durban Central Detectives, concludes an intensive manhunt and underscores the persistent efforts of the South African Police Service (SAPS). The arrest was the result of close collaboration between police units in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, highlighting the critical role of interprovincial cooperation in tracking down criminals.
Siboya allegedly evaded capture after the brutal killing of Amanda Khumalo at their home in Vukuzakhe, Volksrust. It is alleged that he stabbed Khumalo multiple times in full view of their two children. The children managed to escape the scene and raise the alarm.
Following the incident, investigations suggested that Sibiya might have fled across the border to the Kingdom of Eswatini. There, he is suspected of being involved in another murder, which also reportedly involved a romantic partner.
The case saw a major breakthrough when persistent efforts by Volksrust Detectives yielded information that the suspect had resurfaced in Durban. In a coordinated operation with their KwaZulu-Natal counterparts, police moved swiftly to apprehend Sibiya at a lodge. Authorities believe this intervention prevented him from carrying out another alleged heinous plan, which was reported to have involved his children.
