Mpumalanga: On Thursday, 14 July 2016 at about 07:00, members of Secunda Flying Squad members noticed some suspicious activities on a farm just outside Leandra (Leslie).
Upon investigation it was discovered that a farm barn contained 18 000 litres of diesel stored inside. A truck was parked next to the barn which was loaded with 17 000 litres of diesel. Two jojo tanks were also found at the scene of which one contained diesel. A total of 35 000 litres of diesel was recovered. Two pumps,a Nissan bakkie and a Mercedes Sprinter used to transport diesel were also found.
Four suspects were arrested immediately on the scene. Another suspect believed to be in charge of the whole operation was also arrested when he tried to bribe the police for R 10 000-00. The total value of all items recovered is estimated at R 2 000 000-00.
It is alleged that the suspects were buying the diesel from drivers who were transporting diesel for big companies. They will then store it until they had enough, then hire a tanker truck to take the diesel to Gauteng were they will sell it.
