Four male suspects, aged between 32 and 47, were arrested in Mayflower in the early hours of Saturday, 14 June 2025, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to police reports, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were conducting routine patrols around 00:20 when they noticed a suspicious red VW Golf with four occupants. One of the individuals was wearing a balaclava, prompting officers to stop and search the vehicle.
During the search, police recovered a silver pistol hidden beneath a seat. The firearm’s serial number had been scratched off, rendering it untraceable. None of the occupants admitted ownership of the weapon, leading to the arrest of all four suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are from Pienaar. The red VW Golf was seized for further investigation, as ownership remains under verification. One suspect claimed the vehicle belonged to her [his] mother.
The four accused are set to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
