A farm murder took place on 26 June 2023, at 18:00 on a farm in Balmoral, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.
A man was overpowered by 2 armed unknown African males at his house and then taken to a neighbors home on the same property.
At the neighbours home the attackers kicked down the door and overpowered the woman who was alone at the time and tied her up.
Both victims were assaulted with an iron pipe. The attackers were demanding firearms and money.
The woman in her 50s was left her with her hands tied on her bed.
The man was also taken back to his house and left tied up.
At that stage the woman’s husband arrived back home in a white Jetta.
The moment he set his foot out of his car, not knowing wat aspired inside his house, he was shot dead.
During this time the attackers also gained entry to a third house on the property belonging to the landlord, who was not at home at the time, where they broke a firearm safe out of the wall.
They then went and took the Jetta and drove back to the third house to load the safe.
One of the attackers then also went and searched the man’s car who was tied up in the second house’s and in the process shot himself in the lower leg.
Whilst the attackers loaded the safe, the surviving 58-year-old man managed to free himself and run for help. He noticed a total of 4 African males standing outside the house.
He ran over the railway through bushes to a house, about 1.5km away to get help.
The rescuers loaded him into the car and drove to the scene. On their way there they drove past the white Jetta with at least two attackers and the safe. They managed to turn around and stop the vehicle.
One attacker fled on foot but the other one who wounded himself got himself caught thanks to the blood trail.
The community around was alerted and the necessary services was arranged.
The survivors of the attack are severely traumatized and bruised, but didn’t sustain any serious injury.
The suspect was handed over to the police, and taken to hospital where he died as a result of blood loss from self inflicted injury.
