Farm attack, worker shot, operation nets 3 suspects, firearms, Stoffberg

A farm attack took place on 17 February 2023, at 17:00, on a farm in Stoffberg, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.

Three armed attackers arrived at the farm in a vehicle and while the farmer was busy in the shed they overpowered the farm workers.

A scuffle broke out and one of the farm workers was shot.

On hearing the shot, the farmer immediately raised the alarm and local farmers and other role players responded.

It is presumed that the attackers intended to subdue and tie up the workers before attacking the farmer.

As a result of the commotion the attackers fled and the swift response from responders ended in a high speed chase.

The vehicle was stopped at Laersdrift where the attackers fled between the shacks. Local community members assisted and three of the attackers were arrested.

Three firearms, with serial numbers erased, as well as cable ties were found in the vehicle.

The farm worker was transported to hospital.
