The alert and quick thinking of the daughter of the farmer who was attacked in Ogies on 17 March 2019, at 08:00 prevented a horrific scene from playing out. The farm attack took place on a farm between Ogies and Kriel at Springboklaagte. The farmer in his 70’s was attacked by 3 armed men at the gate whilst on his way to church. The attackers gained access to the property by laying a blanket over the security fence. His daughter in her 30’s was suspicious when she did not hear the vehicle drive away. When she opened the door to investigate she was confronted by one of the attackers.
She ran down the passage to the bedroom to retrieve a firearm and slammed the security gate. She opened fire on the attackers from the bathroom window. This caused the men to flee in her fathers Ford bakkie which was later recovered about 2km from the home.
She notified the farm watch and other emergency services. Her father was stabbed during the assault and is in a stable condition. But there were no arrests.
