A farm attack took place on 10 November 2019, at 02:00, in Balfour, Mpumalanga province. Four attackers overpowered and assaulted Mike and Riette Maree on their farm. There is an urgent ‘lookout’ for their vehicle, a white Toyota Landcruiser VX200, station wagon, with registration HGB 204 MP, that was robbed along with firearms, phones and other items, during the attack. The power was off and as a result the alarm did not work, the attackers gained entrance by breaking down the security and back doors.
Mike had a gun pressed against his head in the bedroom whilst his wife was beaten around her head and face, she was also strangled. The couple have been severely traumatized and are receiving trauma support.
Two of the attackers are presumed to be about 35 years old and the other two in their twenties.There is no other information available at this stage. Police are investigating,there have been no arrests.
