Eskom arrested a 50-year-old man for theft of seven transformers in the Balfour area.
This follows after Andries Koos Mahlangu was in the Kriel Magistrate’s Court sentenced to imprisoned for three years for cable theft.
Cable theft apparently seems to be a rewarding industry, which means thieves have an outlet for the stolen material. Observers believe that buyers of the stolen material come to light if they are caught, and a few good examples might serve as a deterrent.
It is also noteworthy that no Afrikaans surnames or English surnames appear in the case of cable theft.
