Elderly man and gardener attacked on farm near Piet Retief
Tenants attacked, tied up and held at gun point on smallholding

On Friday, January 13, three suspects attacked an elderly man (83) and his gardener on a farm outside Piet Retief.

The suspects stabbed the garden worker before attacking the farmer who was renting the property from Edgar Bohmer.

The suspects tied up the elderly man, demanded the safe keys and wanted firearms. The victim only had R1200 cash and the suspects fled with the money.

After several hours, the victim managed to free himself and raised the alarm by continually pressing on the radio microphone. The farm manager heard the commotion and went to investigate.

The condition of the gardener is unknown at this stage. The elderly victim’s condition is not serious.

There is a strong suspicion that one of the suspects was a former employee on the farm.

The suspects are still at large and an investigation continues.
