Drug mule to appear in Mpumalanga court

A 47-year-old woman was arrested just before midnight on Saturday at the Lebombo border post with Mozambique for possession of drugs, Mpumalanga police said.

Her arrest followed after police and South African Revenue Service (SARS) custom officials stopped a bus transporting passengers from Mozambique, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said.

“They then suspected a woman who was [one] of the passengers and subjected her to a search. It was during the search when it was discovered that she had 2.168kg of heroin worth about R2 million wrapped around her body.

“When questioned about the loot the woman alleged that she did not know what she was carrying. However, whatever it is, was supposed to be delivered to a man unknown to her in Gauteng.”

The woman was detained at the Komatipoort police station and would appear in the local magistrate’s court on Monday, Hlathi said.
