The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma welcomed hefty sentences passed by the Siyabuswa and Nkomazi Regional Courts, to four men, for rape and kidnapping, respectively.

On 27 June 2019, the Nkomazi Regional Court sitting at Tonga, meted out a combined 42 year imprisonment term to two men, Joeman Masinga and Alex Khoza aged 23 and 28 for rape and kidnapping. They will serve an effective 21 years each.

According to evidence presented in court, the duo kidnapped two victims on 15 August 2018, a man and a woman, whom they had offered a lift from Tonga to KaMhlushwa. As they were on their way the driver then changed the direction and headed towards Mzinti, where they dropped off the man.

They then covered the woman’s head and drove with her to a secluded area where they both repeatedly raped her. The matter was reported to the police and the diligent work of the Investigating Officer led to the duo’s arrest on 21 August 2018.
