There seems to be no end to incidents of corruption in South Africa, and this could break the country’s economic ‘camel’s back’. This is the opinion of an independent economist in Pretoria following rumors that a business consultant has walked away with millions of rand assigned to a contractor.

The Mpumalanga consultant who walked away with R300 million, after being allocated to contractors for projects, eventually only paid the contractor R1.5m for the work he did.

The contractor had to build a water storage tank for which his tender was approved for R5,2 million but apparently received only R1,2 million for the completed task.

According to News24 reports, the consultant, Bernard Marsher, who owns Fastrack Consultants, paid the amount to contractor Majaha Mthombeni of MJ Construction.

What has become of all the other money that the municipality of Malelane paid to the consultant is not known.
