The Police as well as the Rescue team in Balfour are at a certain mine in the area after being informed of a shocking incident whereby four people are believed to have unfortunately lost their lives.

It is suspected that a mine conveyor belt fell resulting in the death of the four male persons meanwhile two others are said to have sustained some injuries.

The injured were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The incident is said to have occurred on 13 April 2023, at around 11:45.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are yet to be established, including the identities of the victims who unfortunately died. An inquest with regard to the death of the victims will be investigated. More information will be provided as details come forth.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has sent condolences to their families and wished speedy recovery for the injured victims. The General further called for calm regarding this incident as the event unfolds.
