Community policing results in successful arrest of 12 suspects alleged to be involved in Wakkerstroom murder

Members of the public in Wakkerstroom reportedly played a pivotal role in the arrest of 12 suspects aged between 18 and 27. This is after a murder incident in which a 26-year-old male victim from EsiZameleni in Wakkerstroom possibly died from a stab wound in the early hours of Sunday, at about 02:50.

According to a report, Police as well as the paramedics were summoned to a murder scene and upon arrival, the victim was found lying in a pool of blood not far from a local tavern with a stab wound in the upper body. The victim was unfortunately certified dead.

A murder case was opened where the probe immediately began and whistle-blowers led police investigations to a house where 10 suspects were found in one house. Another suspect was reportedly found on the crime scene meanwhile one suspect was found at his place of residence at Siyathuthuka in Wakkerstroom.

The 12 suspects were arrested in about 90 minutes after the gruesome murder.

Amongst the arrested suspects, ten were reportedly found in possession of knives. During their arrest, police discovered some items with blood stains and the items were confiscated for further investigation.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Volkrust District Court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the brutal murder and commended community members for working in partnership with the police which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspects.
