A 33-year-old male is expected to appear on 2 July 2021, at the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court after he was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Mpumalanga team on 1 July 2021. He was linked with the crime scene of an attempted cash-in-transit heist and attempted murder between Nelspruit and Barberton.

It is alleged that on 6 May 2021, at about 07:00, suspects attacked a G4S armoured vehicle and Tactical Support Unit vehicle on the R40 Road between Nelspruit and Barberton and numerous shots fired at the AV and TSU vehicles.

Two security guards were injured and were taken to hospital for medical attention.

Suspects allegedly hijacked a Toyota Hilux bakkie and fled. They left behind two Mercedes Benz vehicles that were hijacked in Brooklyn in March 2021 and Mamelodi in May 2021, respectively.

No cash was taken during the attack.

Local Criminal Record Centre visited the crime scene and the suspect was later identified. The warrant of arrest was issued against him by court.
