Cash in transit heist leaves one dead three injured

At 09:52 on Friday morning Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the R538 close to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Reports from the scene indicate that it was a cash in transit heist. Exact detail to the incident will form part of the South African Police investigation.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the vehicles at the side of the roadway. After triaging the injured, it was found that a security guard tragically died due to the extensive injuries he sustained, three other people were found to have sustained serious injuries.

According to police spokesman Capt Jabu Ndubane, a black BMW, a white Fortuner and two Volkswagen vehicles ambushed the security vehicle. The suspects fired shots at the driver and the passenger.”

Ndubane said the passenger was shot in the leg, but the driver was killed instantly. The suspects bombed the back of the vehicle and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Paramedics treated the injured at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further care.
