Three suspects aged between 21 and 22 are expected to apply for bail at the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on 22 May 2023 after being arrested by the Police at Silobela near Carolina in connection with the brutal murder of Mr Sabelo Khumalo (23) at a tavern in the area on 30 April 2023.
The three had their first appearance on Friday, 19 May 2023 following allegations that they brutally murdered a patron after a brawl.
According to information, it is said that the suspects were involved in an argument with the victim and his friends. The argument turned physical where the victim and his friends reportedly ran for their lives after being accosted by the suspects.
Unfortunately Khumalo was allegedly cornered and stabbed multiple times and sustained some injuries then sadly succumbed later.
Police conducted their investigation which led to the arrest of the three suspects, Kwanele Khumalo (21), Khulekani Sibiya (21) and Siyabonga Nkosi (22) on 17 May 2023.
During their first court appearance on Friday 19 May 2023, they were all remanded in custody hence they are anticipated to make a formal bail application on Monday 22 May 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the behaviour of patrons who go to liquor outlets with dangerous weapons as this pose danger to others. The General further urged business owners of liquor outlets to comply with regulations by ensuring safe environment for their customers.
