Business robbers hijack bakkie as getaway vehicle, 1 arrested, Witbank

On Monday 8 November, 2021 Police in conjunction with Vital Security Company of Emalahleni arrested one suspect and recovered one hijacked vehicle and three fire arms.

The arrest and recovery follows a business robbery which occurred during the morning at BSV Business Premises in Beaty Street CBD of Witbank.

According to information at our disposal is that, three armed suspects entered the business and overpowered and disarmed the security guard at the entrance of the shop. They then held the staff and the security guard at gunpoint and robbed the business an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects then fled the scene on foot but hijacked a nearby red double cab Isuzu bakkie at gunpoint and fled scene with the hijacked vehicle.

The security company and Police immediately reacted to an early warning system on the hijacked vehicle and tracked it down to nearby Verena.

Subsequent to that, one suspect was arrested in possession of three fire arms and ammunition (One handgun belonging to the security guard, one unlicensed R1 rifle and one unlicensed pistol) together with the hijacked bakkie.

The 34-year-old suspect will appear in the Emalahleni magistrate court on Wednesday the 10 of November 2021 on charges of armed robbery, Hijacking and possession of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga has applauded and appreciated the working together of the police and other security agencies and also requested the community to also join in and be part of crime fighters.
