Four men appeared at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on 26 October 2018, after they were found in possession of stolen motor vehicles.

The appearance comes after police who were executing their routine patrol duties on Tuesday night, 23 October 2018, around Botleng in Delmas spotted an abandoned red Isuzu bakkie. While checking the vehicle which did not appear to be stolen at the time, they received another complaint regarding a white Isuzu around the area, which was also reportedly abandoned by two men. When police arrived at the scene, they found that the vehicle had been stripped and a short probe revealed that both vehicles belong to one owner, from Bushbuckridge.

Upon contacting the Bushbuckridge Police Station, they discovered that the owner was at the police station busy reporting a case of house robbery where the two vehicles were robbed.

Later on the same night, police spotted and arrested the suspects at a filling station after noticing that two of them were fitting the description given to them. They were found in possession of the keys for both the bakkies as well as other belongings stolen from the house in Saselani, near Bushbuckridge.

During that house robbery, it is reported that the owner of the house was at home when five unknown men suddenly stormed in, pointed him with a firearm and assaulted him. They demanded his bank cards as well as keys for the two bakkies. They proceeded to blindfold the victim, took him to an unknown location using his vehicles and demanded his bank card pin code.

Thereafter they drove with him for a distance before forcing him out of the vehicle in the bushes near a railway line.

The suspects, Surprise Ngobeni aged 22, Blessing Mokoena aged 20, Simon Mhlanga aged 22 and Kusio Ngobeni aged 21, were remanded in custody, pending application for legal aid. They are also expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on the charge of house robbery as well.
