It is just a month that the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma warned people who impersonate police and con people of their belongings to stop, because the net is closing on them.

Indeed the General’s words came to pass when police at Elukwatini pounced on a 34 year old man for impersonating a police officer. The man, Gladwell Mandla Masango was found clad in a police issued tracksuit and in possession of a fake police Appointment Certificate.

Masango allegedly robbed a number of foreign owned shops in the neighbouring Tjakastad, by pretending to be a police officer. His tracks were brought to an abrupt end after police received information about his clandestine activities where he was moving from one shop to the next under the guise of being a police officer inspecting compliance. Police responded swiftly to the information provided and arrested Masango.

The suspect appeared yesterday at the Eerstehoek Magistrates Court where he was granted R800 bail and ordered to return to court on 13 September 2018.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma applauded the swift response by the police and the concerned citizen in this regard for working as a collective.
