The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the speedy arrest of a 32-year-old suspect on 7 June 2022, at Balfour in connection with an incident where a 24-year-old woman, together with her 2-year-old daughter, were found dead.
Their bodies were discovered on Monday, 6 June 2022, at their house in Siyathemba Informal Settlement in Balfour.
The report indicated that police received information that there was a murder which occurred at the said place and they swiftly attended to it where upon arrival found a woman lying on the kitchen floor unresponsive as well as a two-year-old girl’s lifeless body in the bedroom with an injury on her neck.
They were both certified dead at the scene by paramedics.
It was further revealed that the woman’s 5 month old child was allegedly taken by his father and he is unharmed.
Police immediately conducted their diligent investigation hence the swift arrest of the suspect. The suspect is due to appear before the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 9 June, 2022 facing two counts of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The Provincial Commissioner has once again expressed her appreciation on the determination and commitment displayed by the Police in the investigation of this case. She vowed that police will continue to fight the scourge of crime against women and children.
