ATM bombing syndicates, suspect arrested with explosives, Sabie
ATM bombing syndicates, suspect arrested with explosives, Sabie

Intelligence driven information led to the arrest of an undocumented foreign national in possession of explosives in Sabie on Thursday 6 April 2023 at about 20:00.

Mpumalanga Tactical Response Team and Mpumalanga Tracking Team oprationalise the information gathered which resulted in a big fish nabbed.

The suspect, a 31 year old Zimbabwean national was tracked down and apprehended whilst walking on the street. He was found in possession of ten Superpower blasting cartridges, ten green Cap Fuses and 50 meter Detonating Cord.

The suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of explosives and further investigation will be conducted to establish if the suspect is not part of the ATM bombing syndicates in the province.

The Department of Home Affairs will also be brought on board and police cannot rule out that the contravention of Immigration Act charge could be added.

The suspect is expected to appear in Sabie Magistrate Court on Tuesday 11 April 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela welcomed the arrest and commended the outstanding breakthrough by the team.
