Police in Mpumalanga are asking for the community to assist in fighting the scourge of missing, kidnapping and killing of children, a trend that seems to be rearing its ugly head in the province of late.

The call by the police comes in the wake of numerous incidents in the province involving the disappearance of children, with the end results of some being found dead or murdered at a later stage.

Currently the police are looking for a 13 year old boy, Katlego Marite who was reportedly kidnapped while playing with friends at Tasbet Park, Witbank on Sunday, 20 May 2018.

It is reported that the teenager was kidnapped by three men travelling in a gold Toyota Corolla with no registration number. Marite’s friends rushed to inform the victim’s parents who in turn alerted the police.

A call is hereby made to anyone with information that may assist in tracing the perpetrators as well as finding the victim to contact Captain Africa Nyathi at 071 352 6007.

There had been other incidents where children had wandered off and later found dead in rivers and disused sewage systems in various places in the province, all pointing to some kind of negligence on the side of parents.

Members of the community with information on any of the above-mentioned cases may alternatively call the SAPS Crime Stop Number 08600 1011.
